Top central Ohio football prospects having big seasons

- Jarrod Ulrey Thisweek USA TODAY NETWORK

While becoming the only football team in central Ohio to make it to at least a state semifinal in each of the past five seasons, Pickerington Central has been a go-to spot for college recruiters.

Xavier Henderson, a 2018 graduate who is starting for Michigan State, and 2021 graduate Lorenzo Styles Jr., who is at Notre Dame, are among the numerous players the Tigers have produced.

With four players already committed to Football Bowl Subdivision programs, Central’s 2022 class might be as deep as any in program history, and that’s not even including one of the nation’s top 2023 recruits in defensive back Sonny Styles.

“Playing next to great players every play is definitely great,” senior defensive lineman C.J. Doggette said. “We all trust each other in what we do, and with that, it makes our chemistry even better. We all know how to hold each other accountable and we all learn from each other.”

Each considered a three-star recruit,

Doggette and Tyler Gillison (DL) have committed to Cincinnati, Dakari Frazier (LB/DL) has committed to Ball State and Kobe Asamoah (OL) is a Rutgers commit.

Through six games, Frazier is the Tigers’ second-leading tackler with 40 and Doggette (39 tackles, 2 tackles for loss) and Gillison (4 tackles for loss, 2 sacks) have helped anchor a defensive line that also features junior Kobi Gorman (5 sacks), who has four FBS offers.

Styles, meanwhile, has 25 tackles and a pass breakup in Central’s 5-1 start.

Add in senior offensive lineman Kyle Imboden, who has three offers, and senior offensive lineman Khalil Walker, who transferred in from Canton Mckinley and has been offered by Toledo, and the Tigers’ depth of talent, particularly in the trenches, is unmatched in central Ohio.
