Manufacturers jobs up for grabs in Ohio with above-average pay
Manufacturers across Ohio have a unified message: “Creators Wanted.”
Hundreds of companies, including major household brands and small, family-owned enterprises, are looking for talented Ohioans of all ages to join their teams. With record numbers of job openings, above-average pay, incredible variety in the roles and specializations needed, and the promise of a long, rewarding career, there has rarely been a better time to get your start in manufacturing.
If you need proof of just how eager our industry is for talented new employees, stop by the Creators Wanted live tour coming to Columbus State College Community College today.
Local businesses are going above and beyond to get the word out, and at this exciting event they’re showcasing all the perks of working in modern manufacturing.
Nearly every industrial sector has a presence in Columbus. Whether it’s automotive companies, aerospace, household appliances, food, apparel, pharmaceuticals, chemicals – the list seems endless. These varied manufacturers pay better, in terms of wages and benefits, than other industries; a typical Ohio manufacturing team member earns around $78,000 in pay and benefits, versus roughly $50,000 for employees in the overall job market.
Manufacturers have learned that “help wanted” ads aren’t the only or best way to get the word out about job openings.
Our industry is trying to build a long-term talent pipeline, ensuring that Ohio’s best and brightest view manufacturing careers as an attractive option. That’s why the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association and our members launched Making Ohio – to help more Ohioans find their way to exciting, secure and fulfilling manufacturing careers. And that’s why we believe in Creators Wanted, a national campaign to build the manufacturing workforce of tomorrow.
Creators Wanted gives Ohio manufacturing businesses and their teams a greater level of visibility and a new platform to get their message out. Organized by the National Association of Manufacturers and its workforce development and education partner, the Manufacturing Institute, the campaign is beginning a new national tour next week – and Columbus is the first stop.
The live tour will feature manufacturing and technology leaders – including Honda, Abbott and PTC – who will either provide discussions and career insights or technology demonstrations geared toward young people and those looking for a new line of work.
The tour will connect job seekers with resources to get started on their future manufacturing careers. And students, teachers, parents and local leaders will also be able to take part in the new mobile experience, which is an interactive, traveling showcase of the types of opportunities available in modern manufacturing.
Efforts like Creators Wanted, in tandem with Making Ohio, are far and away the most effective way to build the future of Ohio’s manufacturing workforce. This tour will reach young people and those who’ve never thought about how things are made in America, sparking newfound interest in the abundant jobs we have for them.
This tour will share an understanding of what it’s like to work on a sophisticated, highly advanced shop floor or plant. And I’m looking forward to seeing eyes light up when they get a glimpse of exactly what’s going on in the world of modern manufacturing.
Ryan Augsburger is president of the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association. The Creators Wanted tour is located at Columbus State Community College through today. Details at creatorswanted.org.
