Browns’ Garrett set to push through pain vs. Chargers

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett expects to play Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers despite sitting out two practices this week.

“I’m confident I’m going to play,” Garrett said.

The Browns listed Garrett as questionable to play because of knee and ankle issues, but the All-pro is convinced he’ll be good to go against the Chargers. He said it won’t even come down to a game-time decision.

“I’m fully expecting to go,” Garrett said. “It’s been bothering me since last week. I had some pain then, even the week before. Nobody’s 100% across the league, so I’ve just got to make sure I’m as close to there as possible and make sure I can be a positive force when I’m out there.” Asked what has been bothering him the most, Garrett said, “I can’t tell you that.”

Garrett was granted a practice off to rest Wednesday, a Browns spokesman said. But when Garrett returned to practice Thursday on a limited basis, the team listed him on its injury report with knee and ankle problems. Then instead of participating in Friday’s practice, Garrett worked out under the guidance of the athletic training staff beside the

field and later watched the action from the sideline.

Garrett said he didn’t suffer an injury in practice or against the Vikings, adding the issues have been bothering him for a while.

“I’ve been having some nagging pain and just had to let me heal up and get ready for Sunday,” Garrett said.

Through four games this season, Garrett leads the NFL with six sacks. Yet he said he has been playing through pain.

“Yeah, I do [feel it during games],” he said. “When the adrenaline gets flowing, it starts to go away, but at the beginning, before the game, that’s when I’m really trying to work on it as much as I can to make sure it doesn’t hold me back.”

So far, Garrett doesn’t feel as if the pain has held him back much.

“Not much at all,” he said. “When I go out there, that’s at the back of my mind. I’m putting 100% out there, putting my body on the line. I don’t care about what happens to me. It’s all about the team.”
