Barbara Astrid Pickering, 89, of Etna, Ohio, passed Monday, October 11, 2021. She was born May 14, 1932 in Waynesburg, Ohio to the late Lillian and Lester Wingerter. Astrid graduated from Carrollton High School and The Ohio State University where she was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority. Astrid married Roger Pickering on August 29, 1954. She worked for Battelle as a proofreade­r, and for the Southwest Licking School District as a substitute teacher. She would also help her husband tend to their family farm. Astrid was very active in her community. She was a member of the Ohio State University Alumni, West Licking Historical Society, and Mead-neeedham Museum group. Astrid volunteere­d with the Ohio Historical Museum, the Ohio State Fair, Etna Board of Elections, Etna Elementary and Watkins High School, and with the 4-H Club. She was a devoted member to the Wagram United Methodist Church, where she was a bible school teacher. Astrid was a gifted writer, she wrote two history books of Etna Township and two family genealogy books. She was devoted to her husband and family, and enjoyed having the family over for special gatherings. Astrid is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Roger Pickering; children, Joan

Burns of Blacklick, Ohio, James Pickering of Newark, Ohio, and Joseph (Cindy) Pickering of Etna, Ohio; grandchild­ren, Laura Burns, Mandy (Nathaniel) Lyons, Abraham (Larissa) Pickering, Joel Pickering, Rylan Perry, and Dane Perry; great-grandchild­ren, Eden and Grace Pickering. In addition to her parents, Astrid is preceded in death by her son David Pickering, and grandson Russell Pickering. Family and friends may call from 4-8pm Friday, October 15, 2021 at Kauber-fraley Funeral Home, 289 S. Main St., Pataskala, Ohio 43062. A funeral service will be held 10am Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the funeral home. There will be a private family graveside service. In lieu of flowers,

memorial contributi­ons can be made in Astrid’s name to the Mead-needham Museum, care of the treasurer 4300 York Rd., Pataskala, Ohio 43062.
