Gatts BSN RN, Denise Marie Sybert

1962 - 2022

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the sudden and unexpected passing of Denise Sybert Gatts of Powell, Ohio on January 12 at the age of 59 years. Denise was born on June 14, 1962 in Ravenna, Ohio to Dr. Robert Sybert and Dorothy Sybert. The second youngest of five children, Denise spent her formative years at Immaculate Conception grade school and ultimately graduated from Ravenna High School. Denise graduated from the Kent State University School of Nursing with a BSN in 1985. After graduation Denise was employed at Akron City Hospital. On August 29, 1987 she married Dewey Robert Gatts and moved from Ravenna to Columbus, Ohio. During the following years Denise cared for patients at The Ohio State University Hospital and Mount Carmel Hospital. For the last ten plus years Denise was employed for the Olentangy School District, working with special education students. Denise put her nursing career on hold to be a stay-at-home mother, raising their 3 children and was a second mom to many of their friends. She continued that love of caring for others by being the caregiver to both of her parents after they relocated to Powell Ohio. Denise was extremely compassion­ate and loved to serve others. Denise is survived by her loving husband, Dewey Robert Gatts, Sr.; and three children, Dewey Robert Gatts, Jr, Cailin Marie Gatts

(fiancé, Drake Powers), and

Coltin Jacob Gatts; sister, Cheri Ehrhorn (husband,

Bill); brother, Doctor Daryl Sybert (wife, Debbie); brother, Curtis Sybert ESQ. (wife,

Karen); brother, Doctor

David Sybert; sister-in-law, Mary Hurley (husband,

Peter); sister-in-law, Nancy Niland (husband, Kenneth);

brother-in-law, Dennis

Gatts (wife, Gina). She is

also survived by numerous nieces and nephews along with great nieces and nephews. Loved and adored by all individual­s who knew her, worked with her, or crossed paths with her, as well as her beloved dog, Wyatt Gatts. Denise was an extremely supportive and proud mother, sister, daughter and friend. Denise enjoyed sports and travel with her family as well as being a member of St Joan of Arc. Her family would like to express sincere thanks and appreciati­on to Denise’s colleagues including the Olentangy school staff and her students, as well as her many friends from along the way. The family will receive friends from 4-8pm Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 West Olentangy St., Powell, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:30am on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at St. Joan of Arc Church, 10700 Liberty Road, Powell, Ohio with Entombment to follow at Resurrecti­on Cemetery.
