“Grumpy” Joe, retired Columbus Division of Fire, Prevention 18; Retired Sergeant, Perry Township Police Officer; loving father, protective grandfathe­r, fierce friend, and loyal member of Axemen Motorcycle Club of Ohio Chapter #3, passed away April 12, 2022, at the age of 75. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio,

Joe never met a person that was not part of his family. His large booming personalit­y allowed him to make friends easily, and his loyalty kept those friends close. Joe was always willing to go out of his way to help anyone in need; be it a favor, a meal, or just a big loving pat on the back. Joe was a true force to be reckoned with. He loved Columbus and the family that it offered him; the city lost a great son. Joe is survived by his daughters, Caryl J Bohn (Christophe­r) and Martha (Meg) Gutches; grandchild­ren, Caughlin C Bohn, Claire E Miller, and Reid A Gutches Miller; and sister, Jessie Gutches (Mccoy). Preceded in death by his wife Carla Louise (Rupp) Gutches (2019), and his brother Thomas E Gutches (2003). Funeral arrangemen­ts are being handled by Moreland Funeral Home, 55 East Schrock Road, Westervill­e, Ohio 43081. Visitation is Friday, April 22, 2022 9a-12p, where service will follow at 12pm. Funeral procession follows from Moreland’s and travels to Blendon Cemetery, Westervill­e. The family asks you to please attend and if you wish, bring a vinyl sticker that represents you or a favorite “GRUMPY” memory. We will be putting them to good use during the service.
