1946 - 2022

“Grumpy” Joe, retired Columbus Division of Fire, Prevention 18; Retired Sergeant, Perry Township Police Officer; loving father, protective grandfather, fierce friend, and loyal member of Axemen Motorcycle Club of Ohio Chapter #3, passed away April 12, 2022, at the age of 75. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio,

Joe never met a person that was not part of his family. His large booming personality allowed him to make friends easily, and his loyalty kept those friends close. Joe was always willing to go out of his way to help anyone in need; be it a favor, a meal, or just a big loving pat on the back. Joe was a true force to be reckoned with. He loved Columbus and the family that it offered him; the city lost a great son. Joe is survived by his daughters, Caryl J Bohn (Christopher) and Martha (Meg) Gutches; grandchildren, Caughlin C Bohn, Claire E Miller, and Reid A Gutches Miller; and sister, Jessie Gutches (Mccoy). Preceded in death by his wife Carla Louise (Rupp) Gutches (2019), and his brother Thomas E Gutches (2003). Funeral arrangements are being handled by Moreland Funeral Home, 55 East Schrock Road, Westerville, Ohio 43081. Visitation is Friday, April 22, 2022 9a-12p, where service will follow at 12pm. Funeral procession follows from Moreland’s and travels to Blendon Cemetery, Westerville. The family asks you to please attend and if you wish, bring a vinyl sticker that represents you or a favorite “GRUMPY” memory. We will be putting them to good use during the service.
