Golden, Bennie E

-

Longtime Westerville resident Bennie E Golden, 95, passed to heaven on April 21, 2022 at St. Ann’s Hospital after living a very full and joyful life. Born in East Columbus on January 18, 1927, to Ben and Jeanette M (Evans) Golden, he attended East High School, leaving at 17 to join the Army. He served his country in Germany as a tank commander returning home in 1948. Married in 1949 to Mary Ann Reed, he soon joined his father’s North Bexley Barber Shop. Known as “Red” for his bright red hair, his infectious smile, and energetic personality, he barbered East Side and Bexley residents for many years. Given a rare opportunity by Eddie & Loy Bowers of Custom Cleaners on Cassidy Ave., Bennie took on dry cleaning as a family business and expanded the Bexley shop to service the North Columbus area. He was very active in the Ohio

State Cleaners Association and Dry Cleaners Guild where he served as president. Bennie and Mary had many friends and hosted dinners and boating parties at their cottage on Buckeye Lake. He loved water skiing, golf, playing cards, square dancing, and traveling, especially with the Joy Club of Grace Chapel Church where he was a member. Rarely did he miss playing the Ohio lottery Pick 3, winning with his Boy Scout Troop number, or going to Scioto Downs to see his favorite horse, “Go Spread the Word”, come in a winner. Mary Ann preceded him in death in 1993, as did wife Corrine (Suttle) in 2019. His only sibling, Louise M Bethel, 96, passed away in December 2021, ahead of her “Little Brother”. A loving father to his four children who survive, Kathy Arnholt, David (Elizabeth), Vincent (Karen) and Vicki Golden. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Bill (Stacey)

Arnholt, Jeanette (Todd) Blair, Benjamin Golden, Stephanie (Ryan) Benson, Sara, Noah, Paul Golden, and Mary (Cullen) Rea; 11 great-grandchildren; nephew, John S. Bethel (Ngan Le); niece, Diane Page; and special longtime friend, Jimmie Dickerson. Special thanks to Paramount Assisted Living of Cooper Road for the great care and quality of life given to their residents. Bennie loved his Paramount family, the excellent aides and nurses, wonderful staff, and especially his friends Sharen, Bonnie, and Jeannie.
