Krueger, Lawrence “Larry” C.

-

1947 - 2022

A song well sung, a life well lived, and a love not forgotten. Lawrence “Larry” Krueger lived a life of music

and mirth, filled with love

for his family, friends, and always carrying a tune in his soul. Larry was unfortunately taken from this world Saturday, May 28, 2022. A talented pianist, organist, and an amazing singer; Larry was an avid musician and unwavering supporter of the arts. His passion and penchant for song led him to singing in St. Joseph’s Cathedral choir where he sang for 30 years and met many a lifelong friend and his wife, Jacqueline “Jackie” Rudolph. Married for 34 years, Larry and Jackie fell in love over their shared passions for music, friends, food and entertainment. Together with their friends from The Cathedral, Larry and Jackie helped to form the Columbus Gourmet Club where they spent many an evening enjoying the company of and culinary exploits with friends. Larry made many a friend inside and outside of this group. In particular it was through his love of antiques, organs, pianos and the restoration thereof, that he found his friendship with Shawn Kenny, the Choir Director and Organist at Holy Family Church. It was alongside Shawn that

Larry spent his final years

singing bass in the Holy Family Church choir and running around the State of Ohio preserving and restoring various antiquities. Larry was the son of Clarence Krueger, a WWII pilot, Virginia Prast Krueger, a Nurse, and the older brother of Christine Krueger Holldorf. A journeyman throughout his life; Larry was born on April 14, 1947 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and was raised in Appleton, WI until adolescence, whereupon he finished High School in Stevens Point, WI. He received his Undergraduate Degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point. It was during this time that Larry began to take advantage of the love and talent for music that was inspired and cultivated by his mother, to play piano in restaurants and clubs in order to help pay for school. Upon obtaining his bachelor’s he decided to further his education and received his Graduate Degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Indiana. After college, Larry moved to Ohio where he spent many years at the University of Akron working in Student Life. From there he moved on to Capital University in Columbus as the Assistant Dean of Student Life, Advisor to Greek Life, and Director of the Student Union. While at Capital University, Larry fell in love with the burgeoning Columbus Jazz Arts Group, and became a lifelong supporter of their endeavors. After leaving Capital University; Larry embarked upon a journey in the business of overseeing college bookstores, where he spent time at Wittenberg University, Franklin University, and Columbus State Community

College. Throughout this entire period of time Larry continued to hone his musical talents and ended up joining a talent agency, where he resumed playing piano professionally; this time for parties, weddings, and other organized events. Later in life Larry spent roughly a decade working alongside a wonderful group of nuns, who he loved dearly, at the Columbus Catholic Diocese Bookstore. Ultimately Larry’s greatest love was for his children, Stephen and Michael. A caring and vigilant father, Larry was overjoyed at the birth of his children. The apples of his eyes; the wind in his sails; he considered them his crowning achievement. They were and are his heart and his soul. They gave meaning to his life that was far beyond the here and now and with them he was complete; a part of him that will always live on. Memorial visitation will be held at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST from 4-7pm on Thursday, 6/16/2022; a memorial mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church beginning at 2pm Friday, 6/17/2022. In lieu of flowers, we ask you to donate in honor of Larry to the restoration of an oil painting at The Museum of Catholic Art and History.
