Grace Marion Nowling Greene, 102, of Columbus, was called to her heavenly home on June 3, 2022 surrounded by family. She was born on September 20, 1919, in Charleston, West Virginia. She was one of 10 children born to Clarence and Mary A. Nowling. She married James Greene in 1946 after relocating to Columbus, Ohio. During their marriage, two children were born- Gracia Elaine (Pettie) and James Ronald (Ronnie). In Columbus, she attended Poro School of Cosmetolog­y, Columbus Technical Institute and Franklin University. She worked as a beautician and machinist in Columbus before retiring in 1984 from St. Ann’s Hospital. She joined Caldwell Temple AME Zion Church, now called First AME Zion Church, in September 1946. She was a faithful member of the church where she served as a member of the Stewardess Board, Lay Council and was a Matron in the Life Members Council. In addition to community and civic organizati­ons, she was a member of two organizati­ons for beautician­s: The Culturetts and Alpha Chi Pi Omega Sorority-phi Zeta Mu Chapter. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and all 9 of her siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Gracia E. Brown (Charles); her son, James R. Greene (Charlene); her grandsons, Carlito Brown and Brooks Fields; her granddaugh­ters, Crystal Brown and Stephanie Fields; her great grandchild­ren, Makiyah, Gabriella, Chazmyne, Janaiah, Brooklynn, and Bri’el; her sister-in-law, Hortense Nowling; and a host of relatives and friends. Her Celebratio­n of Life Service will be held at 11AM on Friday, June 17, 2022 at First A.M.E. Zion Church, 873 Bryden Rd. The family will receive friends from 10AM until time of service.
