Buckeyes, Duke to have rematch in 2022 ACC-BIG Ten Challenge

- Adam Jardy

Ohio State will go to Duke for its game in the 2022 men’s basketball ACC-BIG Ten Challenge.

Last season, the Buckeyes hosted the No. 1 Blue Devils at Value City Arena, overcame a 15-point second-half deficit and ripped off a 71-66 win that set off a court storming from a sold-out crowd on Nov. 30, 2021. This year’s game will be played one year to the date of that one at Cameron Indoor Stadium and feature two teams that look decidedly different.

Duke will be led by first-year coach Jon Scheyer, who takes over for Mike Krzyzewski after spending 42 years as Duke’s head coach. Junior guard Jeremy Roach, who had 9 points in last year’s meeting, is the lone Blue Devil to see playing time who remains on the roster.

The Buckeyes will feature a 13-man roster that also has just one player who participated in last year’s game: thirdyear center Zed Key, who scored a career-high 20 points in the game. In all, 17 of the 19 players who were on the court for last year’s meeting have moved on from their respective programs.

This will be the fifth time these teams have played each other in the annual challenge, which dates back to the 200102 season. The teams have split the series, each winning two games either at or close to home. No. 4 Duke beat unranked Ohio State 91-76 in 2002at the Greensboro Coliseum in the first meeting between the teams in the series.

In 2011 and 2012, the programs met for consecutive top-five showdowns. In 2011, No. 2 Ohio State beat No. 3 Duke 85-63 at Value City Arena. In the rematch at Cameron Indoor in 2012, No. 2 Duke beat No. 4 Ohio State 73-68.
