DUBLIN - Ruth Elaine Bulgozdy, age 94, died suddenly on June 25, 2022. Ruth was a loving and devoted wife and mother, an avid sportswoman, a perfect hostess with a wonderful sense of humor, and a devout Catholic. Ruth was born in Youngstown, Ohio on May 14, 1928. As a young woman, she was going to move to New York City to model, but before she departed Youngstown she went on a blind date where she met a tall handsome man, it was love at first sight, and she and that man, her husband Eugene, were soon married. Ruth and Eugene were married for over 63 years until he died in 2011, and she continued to treasure him until she passed. Ruth raised four children, sometimes by herself while Eugene travelled for work. With Eugene’s support, Ruth took up golf, bowling, and bridge. She loved golf, played her last round at age 90, and won numerous trophies and tournaments. She and Eugene were members of several golf clubs, including Edgewood in Michigan, and Riviera and TCC at Muirfield in Ohio. Ruth was also an avid bowler, and she had the trophies to show it. Eugene was proud that his wife won more trophies than he did in golf and bowling, although Ruth always made sure Eugene’s trophies got equal time. Ruth was a keen bridge player into to her early 90s, was a member of numerous bridge clubs, and sometimes had a game every day of the week. In addition to sports, Ruth was a fabulous hostess and gourmet cook, and she and Eugene loved to entertain. She belonged to several gourmet groups and happily shared her recipes. Ruth was also active in and played a leadership role in numerous organizations, such as Women Today, the Muirfield Village Garden Club, and Our Lady of Refuge Mother’s Club. She also volunteered for many years at Our Lady of Refuge school in Orchard Lake, Michigan. When Ruth and Eugene moved to Ohio in 1977, they were parishioners of St. Brendan’s, and then were founding parishioners of St. Brigid of Kildare in Dublin. Ruth and Eugene never missed Sunday Mass. After Eugene died, Ruth found support and solace from friends and clergy at St. Brigid, and joined the Good Grief Club and the 55 Club. One of the last trips she took was with the 55 Club, and she had a great time. When Ruth moved to Dublin, she joined an investment club and really enjoyed learning how to analyze stocks and pick investments. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Eugene, baby Brian, and her brothers John and Robert Haug. Ruth is survived by her children, Gene (Jane d. 2014), Elaine Coupe (Bob), Cheryl Martin (Scott), and John; three grandchildren, Robert (Felicia) and Daniel Bulgozdy, and Gregory Martin, and great grandchild William Bulgozdy. Ruth is also survived by her beloved dog “Cuddles,” who was known to everyone in the neighborhood. When Ruth had trouble walking, she could be seen riding her cart down the bike paths with Cuddles running alongside. Gene handpicked Cuddles for Ruth a few months before he died, and Cuddles was her guard dog and faithful friend ever since. The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME AT POWELL, 450 W. Olentangy St., Powell.
