Ron L. Hupman

-

MILLERSPORT - In the early 1980s, Ron Hupman came to Columbus to work at Battelle in the Project Management Division. He chose to reside nearby in Dennison Place, and soon became involved in the inner city revitalization effort as president of his neighborhood association for 6 years, zoning chair for the University Area Commission for 21 years and president of the Commission for 8 years. Early on he also sought out the many local cultural opportunities and learned to be a weekend tent camper. Gradually the camping getaways morphed into travel fever and with his wife Barbara he made trips to out of the way places like Cyprus, Uzbekistan, Bhutan, as well as more familiar haunts. With the purchase of his first boat, the cultural activities became more water centered. The tent became a houseboat and eventually a home on Buckeye Lake.

Ronald Lee Hupman was born in 1945 in Springfield, Ohio to Joseph and Mary Paul Hupman. He received his B.S and M.B.A degrees from the University of Cincinnati. He worked for 6 years each in the aerospace industry at Speco in Springfield and Grimes Aerospace in Urbana. Following 8 years at Battelle, he was a consultant to a variety of new businesses and then, in a role reversal, finished out his career with the Ohio Insurance Liquidator closing out insolvent insurance companies.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara and sistersin-law, Suzanne Blick and Loraine Krolosky. Ron was a long time member of the Opera Impresarios, Columbus Sail and Power Squadron, Rocky Fork Ramblers, Buckeye Lake Yacht Club, Museum of Art Contemporaries, and more recently, the Columbus Garden Railroad Society.

Ronald Hupman was a lovely man - reasoned and soft spoken - who was always open to new places and new ideas. He died December 5th, 2022 sitting on his porch taking a pipe break before breakfast. He seemed quite content.

Caring Cremation has taken place through the Johnson-smith Funeral Home. Online condolences can be made at www.funeralhome.com
