Try ‘Columbus-style’ trail for Pizza Day

- Monroe Trombly Columbus Dispatch USA TODAY NETWORK

Thursday is National Pizza Day, and it goes without saying that Columbus is a pizza-loving town.

With countless pizzerias and restaurants serving pizza in Ohio’s capital city, it would be a fool’s errand to try to proclaim one as the best.

Instead, Experience Columbus, the city’s convention and visitors bureau, launched in October something called the “Columbus-style Pizza Trail,” a collection of restaurants in and around Columbus that serve what it calls Columbus-style pizza. That is, pizza with thin crusts and edge-to-edge toppings that are cut in squares. Some have been around for years, if not decades.

Here’s how the pizza trail works: When visiting participating locations, check-in using a digital pass that you can get from Experience Columbus’ website. After stopping at four different restaurants, you’ll get a “Columbusstyle Pizza Trail” T-shirt. Those who purchase a pie from every stop in less than a year will get a stainless-steel pizza cutter and hot pad.

Just be sure to dine in or order carry out, as delivery orders are not eligible for prizes.
