Ardis June Thomas

Ardis June Thomas, age 87, passed away on February 11, 2023 after an extended time with dementia. Ardis was born on May 31, 1935 in Shaker Heights, Ohio. She was a 1957 graduate of Ohio University and taught elementary education. She started her teaching career in Columbus City Schools. After taking time to start a family of three boys and a daughter, she taught in Upper Arlington at Greensview Elementary. She was a devoted and outstanding teacher for 27 years. She then helped start a preschool at Bethel United Methodist Church. She also was active at church serving on the Administrative Board, the Preschool Board and chaired the building committee for an addition to the church. As a member of the Rainbow for Girls she served as Grand Chaplain, State of Ohio. Ardis was also instrumental in the beginning of the Sycamore Hills Civic Association and in developing the swimming pool membership. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Paul R. “Dick” Thomas. They were married for 65 years. Also surviving are three sons, Scott (Sherry) of Dublin, Jeffrey (Karina) of Atlanta, Ga., David (Karen) of Napoleon, OH. And daughter Cheryl (Brian) of Bethel, OH; nine grandchildren, Brian (Alexandra) & Jordan Thomas, Sarah (Ben) Waldron, Laura, Nicole, Sofia Thomas, Jackson Coates, Jacob and Lillie Webb; great-granddaughter Cecilia; sister in law Joan (Rev. Dan) Snider and extended family. Funeral Service will be held at Bethel International United Methodist Church on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at 11:00am with Rev. Glenn Schwerdtfeger presiding. Visitation between 9:30-11:00am. Interment with immediate family will be held at Sunset Cemetery at 1:30pm.
