Sue Dell Thoman

-

Sue Dell Thoman, age 94 of Upper Arlington, died peacefully at home with family at her side on Saturday, May 6, 2023 after a brief illness. She was born on August 2, 1928 in Toledo, Ohio to Bernard and Echo Ryan. Sue Dell was a loving Irish mother, devout Catholic, contributor to many charities, and a willing partner to antics and shenanigans—with her husband Harry. Her love for her family was followed by her fondness for Irish and Ohio State traditions. Her Ohio State tailgates and annual St. Patrick’s Day parties are legendary. Cards and letters were written with green ink, she was nicknamed Grandma Buckeye, Ohio State Football Saturdays and St. Patrick’s Day were celebrated with friends, family, and strangers who would become friends. Sue Dell’s generosity was without limits, her laugh infectious, and she left an indelible mark in the memories of many. She had an eye and appreciation for art and cultural creativity, and had an abounding faith, which was always present in her life. She was a beautiful lass who had an amazing and long life. We should all be so lucky to have had a Sue Dell in our lives. She is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 37 years, Harry Louis Thoman, Jr., son Timothy Ryan Thoman, brother Vincent Ryan, and parents Bernard and Echo Ryan. Sue Dell’s memory will live on through her six surviving children, Harry Louis (Todd) Thoman III (Ana), Terese Marinelli, Taryn Thoman (Dennis), Tierney Reider (Carson), Tricia Wagy (Joe), and Tracy Thoman (Kim); twelve grandchildren, Kelly Mccreary (Ryan), Christopher Thoman, Carson Ryan Reider (Paige), Connor Thoman Reider, Adell Wagy, Bridget Wagy, Carrick Reider, Shane Wagy, Aidan Thoman Wilcox, Kaiden Iskyan, Colleen Wagy, and Timothy Thoman Iskyan; and five great-grandchildren Mason, Miles, Murphy, Jocelyn, and Milo. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023 at EGAN-RYAN NORTHWEST CHAPEL at 4661 Kenny Rd, Columbus, Ohio.
