He began his career as the director of Nick Amster Workshop in Wooster, where the family resided for 28 years. He then taught special education, as well as coached football and baseball, for the Wooster City Schools. Jim lived for his family and friends, always bringing fun to even the most ordinary of days. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and a man of many talents. He passed along his love of sports to his son, and they proudly visited every Major League Baseball Park in the country. Jim married Sandy, his college sweetheart and the love of his life, on June 25, 1977. They were blessed with two children. Their son, Brian James, died on April 22, 2020. Jim is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sandra (Sheldon) Chiampo, daughter Amy Chiampo, and grandson Jacob Chiampo, all of Westerville. He is also survived by one brother, Joseph, and two sisters, Mary Ann and Margaret, all of Rittman, along with nieces and nephews. In addition to his son and his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his in-laws, Donald and Marjory Sheldon, and brothers John and Gerald. The family wishes to thank Capital City Hospice for their compassionate care during the last week of Jim’s life. Schoedinger Chapel of Worthington is handling arrangements. There will be a private family service. A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
