COLUMBUS - David Charles Johnson, age 69, of far east Columbus, passed peacefully on Monday, July 3rd at Mount Carmel East Hospital. David was born November 9, 1953 to Hartvig Doyle and Jean (Koch) Johnson in Cleveland. His family moved to Reynoldsburg when he was in 1st grade. As a Little Leaguer, he was called “Smiley” for his big grin at the plate. At Reynoldsburg High, he played football and made many friends, graduating in 1972.

David married Peggy Pierce in 1984 and became a loving parent to her twins Summer and Amber. They welcomed their daughter Ashley in 1986. From coaching tee ball to summer days in the yard and annual trips to Red, White and Boom, “Daddy” had a warm, silly and fun-loving energy. A genuine people person, David’s boisterous antics were a source of laughter and joy for family, friends and neighbors of all ages. He was always willing to lend a helping hand with cars, plumbing and fix-it repairs. He loved football, family holidays, his golden retrievers and watching storms from the garage. David’s humor, reliability, and loyalty also made him fast friends at work. He spent most of his career with Citizens Utilities (later American Water) and then worked at NAPA Auto Parts.

David was preceded in death by father (Hartvig) Doyle, mother Jean, beloved wife Peggy, and inlaws Karol and Claudette Pierce. He is survived by daughters Summer (David Fowler) Sherman, Amber Sherman, and Ashley (Brett) Johnson-montgomery; grandsons Bear Montgomery and Emmitt Fowler; sisters Melody (Gary) Moore and Susan (Steve) Newell; sisters-in-law Cindy Pierce and Lisa (Jim) Burger; many nephews, extended family, and friends; and last but not least, loyal pup Boomer.

Celebrate David’s wonderful life on Thursday, July 20, 6:30 p.m. at 1883 Locale in Reynoldsburg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to www. petswithoutparents.net.
