Let’s hope voters rule differently
Re “Ex-lawmaker convicted of felony theft can run again,” Jan. 31: The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that Steven Kraus’ 2015 felony conviction for stealing from an elderly person does not preclude him from running for office in Ohio’s 89th House District.
I would hope that the voters in the 89th district disagree.

And he calls himself an award-winning journalist
Re “Faced with Biden vs. Trump, Black voters may choose to stay home,” Feb. 1: Although Isaac Willour is identified as an “award-winning” journalist, his opinion piece contains no factual examples.
Among his many unsupported assertions is this gem: “As a voter of color, I’m not convinced that the Democratic Party cares about anything besides stoking racial divisions to grab my vote.” WTF? Has he never listened to Trump?
How about another gem from the pen of this so-called journalist in reference to Joe Biden: “I would like my president to both condemn white supremacy and refrain from racially charged insults at Americans of color who commit the unpardonable sin of not voting for him.”
Wow, this fellow must be an avid watcher of Fox News or OAN.
Willour, a senior at Grove City ‘Bible’ College near Pittsburg, then closes his rant with the complaint typical of a spoiled child: that Democrats have not done enough for him.
President Biden is working to improve the lives of all Americans, despite the mindless opposition of Republicans and the relentless lies of their enablers.

Trump is a different animal
In his Feb. 1 column Isaac Willour writes “Faced with Biden vs. Trump, Black voters may choose to stay home.”
I’m not crazy about Biden either, but this country has survived bad presidents before and can again.
Trump is a different animal. He doesn’t want to be president, he wants to be dictator for life.
If he gets elected, he’ll find a way, with the support of Republican politicians and voters, to stay on until his death.
If Blacks, or any others who believe in democracy, but are not thrilled with Biden, stay home then Trump wins.
The choice is between Biden or the end of America. We must vote for Biden.

Immigrants are a vital part of our essential workforce
National Caregivers Day is Feb. 16. Let’s make sure we recognize the critical role of immigrants in our care workforce, our community, the economy, and most importantly in our families.
Our population is aging at a faster rate than we’re able to hire new homecare workers.
Which means we’re now facing a huge care workforce shortage. That means our elderly or disabled loved ones could go without care if we don’t address this!
Already immigrant caregivers make up 27% of the direct care workforce - including home health aides, child care workers, and nursing assistants. Without immigrants, the labor shortages in our healthcare and child care systems would be even worse!
Moms are so thankful for the countless contributions immigrants make to keep families and kids healthy and safe.
To really show our thanks to immigrant caregivers this National Caregivers Day we need permanent protections for immigrants and expanded work permit authorizations. It is long overdue and critical to our families and community!
Immigrants are a vital part of our essential workforce, the care infrastructure, our communities, and our families.
