COLUMBUS - Roland L.”ron” Bowman, age 88 passed away at home on Saturday, April 6, 2024 after a courageous battle from complicati­ons of surgery and he was a fighter to the very end. Ron was born on September 17, 1935 in Ringgold, Ohio to George and Edith (nee Anderson) Bowman. Ron graduated from West High School where he served as captain of the basketball and baseball teams. He then went on to serve in the National Guard. Ron was a pillar of our community and a legendary longtime proud Westsider. Ron and his beloved wife, Loretta worked side by side for more than 55 years, along with their son Skip, as Owner and President of the Beck & Orr Book Binding. He was a member of Parkview United Methodist Church and an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. Ron lived each day to the fullest, right up until the end, whether that was going to work every day, meeting friends for fun and laughter, or attending holidays and gatherings at Lori’s home where he was the life of the party. Ron will be remembered as a true hero and role model to his children and grandchild­ren. Ron had a unique connection with his grandchild­ren, the love, joy and wisdom he shared with them will leave behind a piece of him that will be a lasting legacy for generation­s. He was a legend and king of one-liners, nicknames and ‘Ron-isms’ that will live on forever. Preceded in death by his parents; wife of 62 years, Sara Loretta Bowman; daughter, Lynette Hope Farmer; twin brother at birth; siblings, Joseph, Willard and Gerald Bowman, Mary Wagner, Theada Matthews and Ruth Stoyak. Survived by his children, Skip Bowman (Mona) and Lori (Steve) Garrard; grandchild­ren, Derek and Zachary Farmer, Megan and Killian Mcsweeney, and Zane Bowman; brother, David (Sarah) Bowman; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Please join us in celebratin­g this one-of-a-kind man that when the Lord made him, he threw away the mold, so there would never be another true gem like Ron. A gathering will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 4-8:00 pm at Advantage Funeral Home by Schoedinge­r Hilltop, 3030 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43204. Funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Glenwood United Methodist Church, 2833 Valleyview Dr., Columbus, Ohio 43204. Interment Alton Cemetery. Special thank you to the ICU nurses at Mt. Carmel Grove City and Dr. Ricaurte who took the utmost care, the best advocate and believer in our dad.
