Three 6 Mafia’s Juicy J announces new solo album, signature cannabis strain
Memphis Music Hall of Famer Juicy J has announced a new solo album. The Three 6 Mafia co-founder will release “The Hustle Continues” on Oct. 14. The project will feature guest appearances by a number of top names in hip-hop including Megan Thee Stallion (for whom Juicy J produced the chart-topping “Hot Girl Summer”), Lil Baby, Logic, A$AP Rocky, 2 Chainz, and Ty Dolla $ign, among others.
A contingent of Juicy’s fellow Memphis rappers, including young lions NLE Choppa, Young Dolph and Key Glock also appear on the record. The album will also see Juicy J back together with his Hypnotize Minds/three 6 Mafia compatriots Lord Infamous and Project
Pat.
Juicy J is previewing the album with a new single and video, a collaboration with Wiz Khalifa titled “Gah Damn High.” The video, directed by Joe Weil, is a reality TV spoof, following Juicy J and his family during quarantine.
The 45 year-old Juicy J — real name Jordan Houston — has been enjoying a run of solo success over the last decade, starting with 2013’s “Stay Trippy” LP (featuring the breakout single “Bandz a Make Her Dance) and its 2017 follow up “Rubba Band Business,” both released by major label Sony/columbia.
“The Hustle Continues” finds Juicy J returning to the indie label ranks for the first time in over decade, as part of a deal with eone. The project reunites Juicy J with eone’s President of Urban Music, Alan Grunblatt, the executive who signed Three 6 Mafia to their first record deal.
In a statement, Juicy J noted that “Alan...believed in me then and he believes in what I’m doing today as an artist, and as a producer,” he said. “It made the most sense to release ‘The Hustle Continues’ independently and eone gave me the best deal where I own 100% of my masters.”
As part of the album announcement, Juicy J also confirmed his involvement with the new cannabis brand Asterisk*. Operating as part of the Los Angeles, California-based company Green Street, Astersik* will be debuting various products including a clothing line and Juicy J’s signature strain of cannabis, called ‘Wildflower.”
Juicy J’s “The Hustle Continues” is available for pre-order now.
