The Broad Avenue Arts District is about to get another craft brewery.

Hampline Brewing Company is slated to open in late December at 584 Tillman St.

The small-batch craft brewery is a collaboration between brewer Wes Osier and two of the partners at the Rec Room – Martha Hample and Richard Rhodes.

The brewery gets its name from the Hampline Bike Path and the brewing facility is in the building just behind Rec Room.

The Brewery and Tap Room

In addition to a state-of-the-art brewing facility, Hampline Brewing Company will also have an indoor and outdoor taproom.

The taproom will feature locally crafted, communal, high-top tables for enjoying beer, light snacks and live sports on TV.

Additional seating will be available on the covered outdoor porch and on the lower level where picnic tables and a shade trellis reside in the grassy beer garden. An expansive outdoor space connects the brewery to Rec Room and includes a new greenspace, trees, shade sails along with a new deck at Rec Room.

The Beer

Hampline Brewing Company will open its doors with four beers.

“Dunk Tank” is a German, Oktoberfest dunkel, “Tarter Than the Average Bear” is a blackberry gose, “Handlebar Haze” is a New England IPA and “Memphis Natch” is a light lager.

Osier comes to Memphis from New Orleans, where he worked at Urban South and Abita Breweries. Prior to that he had worked at Terrapin Beer Co. and Sweetwater Brewery, both in Georgia.

“My vision is to bring new beer styles such as New England IPAS and mixed culture sours along with Old-world German, Belgian, and British styles to Memphis beer lovers.” said Osier.

When he connected with Hample and Rhodes about the idea for a brewery, Hample said the first thought was that the brewery could be an excellent source for all the venues she manages, which includes Loflin Yard and Civil Axe in addition to Rec Room.

“We’re very excited to bring another brewery to the Broad Avenue family and connect it with the endless opportunities for fun at Rec Room and Civil Axe. We’ve created a space where Memphians can enjoy indoor/outdoor entertainment featuring a rotating selection of craft beers all accessible via the Hampline bike lane and Sam Cooper Boule

vard” said Rhodes.

“We hope this addition and upgrade to the neighborhood will create a place where beer lovers and bicycle enthusiasts from all over the city can easily and safely enjoy our brand of group recreation and beautifully crafted beer for all tastes.”

The 2,500 square-foot brewery and

taproom is projected to open mid-december, just in time for Christmas.
