Redbirds snap 4-game slide

Additon limits Sounds to four hits REDBIRDS 2, SOUNDS 0

- By Marlon W. Morgan

Redbirds starter Nick Additon clearly had his best stuff of the season working on the mound Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.

But it was more than that, the left-hander said, that allowed him to be successful. What really was the key behind his dominating performance against Nashville was the chemistry he and catcher Bryan Anderson have had recently.

The two were in perfect harmony, leaving the Nashville Sounds baffled all night as the Redbirds snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-0 win in front of 4,936.

“A lot of credit has to go to Anderson and my defense,” Additon said. “Me and Anderson have been on the same page the whole time. That goes under the radar a lot, but I think I might have shook him like three times tonight. That just helps so much when you have confidence in your catcher and what he’s putting down and the defense is making plays behind you.”

Additon (3-6) struck out a career-high and a Redbirds season-high 11 batters in his seven innings of work. He gave up just four hits to go with no walks in what was clearly his best performance in his two seasons with the Redbirds.

Anderson used Additon’s fastball along with a perfect mix of curveballs to keep the Sounds from getting into any kind of flow offensively. Only five batters managed to reach base against Additon.

“We’re comfortable together,” Anderson said. “I’ve caught him for two years now. I know what he’s got and we’re good friends, so we communicate a lot. I know his style and I try to go off of it . For him, what’s big is his location and hitting his spots and getting ahead of guys.”

After a 1-6 start to the season, Additon is finding his When, where: 11:05 a.m., AutoZone Park
