TODAY’S PITCHERS

-

Memphis RHP Brandon Dickson (2-5, 3.14 ERA) vs. Nashville RHP Claudio Vargas (1-0, 4.58 ERA) stride, picking up wins in his last two outings. Last week’s 12-6 win at Albuquerque was impressive considering it came at a ballpark that is unkind to visiting pitchers not accustomed to the altitude.

In that outing, Additon gave us three runs on seven hits in 52/ innings. To win there did wonders for his confidence.

“That’s a place that’s no fun to pitch and you really have to focus pitch-by-pitch,” he said. “If you can pitch there, you can pitch anywhere.”

The Redbirds offense managed to supply just enough offense for Additon to get rewarded for his strong outing. Memphis got on the board in the third inning thanks to some help from Nashville starter Wily Peralta (1-8).

After giving up a one - out single and two walks to load the bases, Peralta was called for a balk allowing Cedric Hunter to score from third. However, that was the only run they were able to score.

The Redbirds added another run in the sixth. Mark Hamilton scored on Pete Kozma’s bases-loaded single to right .

The Redbirds conclude their three -game series against the Sounds at 11 a.m. today with the winner getting an early lead in the newly created I-40 Cup Series presented by Tennessee Education Lottery.

The winner of the season series will receive a two -foot tall I-40 Cup, while the losing team must donate 25 tickets to the winner’s charity of choice. — Marlon W. Morgan:
