Red Sox 2, Marlins 1 at Miami: Clay Buchholz (7-2) outpitched Mark Buehrle as Boston edged Miami to end a four-game losing streak. The game was scoreless until Kelly Shoppach hit an RBI double in the seventh inning and scored on Mike Aviles’ single. Logan Morrison hit a solo homer for Miami in the seventh. It was Buerhle’s first interleague loss in 16 starts dating back to 2007.
Mets 11, Rays 2 at St. Petersburg, Fla.: Chris Young settled down after a shaky first inning to get his first win in more than a year, and first in a Mets uniform, as New York pounded Tampa Bay. Young allowed nine hits over 52/ innings, walked two and struck out four in his second major league outing since returning from shoulder surgery. Rookie Jordany Valdespin drove in a career-high four runs, three of them with a pair of two-out hits.
Royals 2, Brewers 1 at Kansas City, Mo.: Billy Butler drove in the goahead run in the eighth inning, and the Royals got a superb start from Luis Mendoza to spoil Zack Greinke’s return to Kansas City with a win over Milwaukee.
Rangers 9, Diamondbacks 1 at Arlington, Texas: Colby Lewis (5-5) retired the first 16 batters and finished with a four-hitter as Texas stopped Arizona’s five-game win streak. Ian Kennedy (5-6) gave up six runs and 10 hits in 52/ innings. He arrived in Texas on a private plane earlier in the day after his wife gave birth on Sunday.
Twins 11, Phillies 7 at Minneapolis: Trevor Plouffe had a homer, a double and three RBIs and Bene Revere and Jamey Carroll had three hits and two RBIs apiece as Minnesota outslugged Philadelphia for its 10th win in 13 games.
Cubs 4, Tigers 3 at Chicago: Darwin Barney had three RBIs and Chicago used shortstop Jhonny Peralta’s two throwing errors in the eighth inning to push across the winning run against Detroit.
A’s 8, Rockies 5 at Denver: Bartolo Colon settled down after a rough start to pitch effectively for five innings, Brandon Moss hit two home runs and Oakland rallied from a 4-0 deficit to beat Colorado.
