Panel tables senior center plans

-

The Southaven Planning Commission has tabled approving site and design plans for a proposed $6.5 million senior citizens activity center.

At a recent meeting, commissioners questioned whether 136 parking spaces shown on the site plans were adequate for the proposed 18,700-square-foot center. They also were concerned about traffic control at the site.

Planning Director Whitney Choat-Cook told commissioners that her staff also had concerns about the access points at the center, which is slated to be built on 10.5 acres on Getwell Road.

With too many questions, and no definite answers, commissioners tabled the senior center matter until their April 29 meeting.

At the same meeting March 25, commissioners approved City Auto’s site and design plans for a 15,500-square-foot used-car dealership on Nail Road.

They also approved a one-year conditional-use permit to allow an indoor shooting and gun permit training facility at 9200 Hudgins Road.

The planning items will now go before the Southaven Board of Aldermen for final approval at its Tuesday meeting. At that meeting, the Board of Aldermen is also expected to vote for a fourth time on whether to issue the $6.5 million bond to build the senior center. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall. which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., is “DeSoto Grand Slam.”
