King brings Memphis blues to sail cruise line’s Queen

-

Holland America Line is putting Memphis blues on its Eurodam cruise ship.

The cruise line announced its agreement recently with B.B. King’s Blues Club to re-create the venue in the ship’s Queen’s Lounge with guitars and pictures of the blues singer. The arrangement is for five nights a week on cruises through June 20 that put in at about 20 countries in the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Baltic.

In addition, a “Memphis Sounds” live stage show produced by the club’s CEO, Tommy Peters headlines one night a week on the Eurodam’s main stage. The 45-minute performance incorporates video projection, choreography and costumes to tell the story of the blues.

The eight-piece band is made up of area musicians, including veteran bluesman Preston Shannon.

Richard Meadows, executive vice president of marketing, sales and guest programs for Holland America Line, said that plans are to extend the production after June on the Eurodam and other Holland America ships.

In a large saucepan, over medium-high heat, add broth. Add cabbage and cook, stirring frequently until cabbage is wilted but still crisp. Stir in sour cream and dill. Season with salt and pepper. Reduce heat to low, cover and cook another 5-10 minutes, checking once or twice to give it a stir. 3 Depending on how much you like tart foods, a splash of lemon juice or mild vinegar would be good here. Serve immediately.
