About 50 guests attended the Lakeland seniors’ (for age 55 and up) “Going Green” potluck luncheon March 22, sponsored by First Citizens National Bank of Arlington. The event was held at the Lakeland Senior Center, 4527 Canada Road.

Don Oliver, Community Bank president for First Citizens National Bank, Arlington, presented door prizes donated by the Bank (umbrella, caps and tickets to the Taste of Arlington) to the winners as well as door prizes donated by ATC Fitness and Starbucks at Wolfchase.

The featured entertainment for the luncheon was the Riverboat Cloggers. Marie Lovelace, leader of the family-oriented dance group, has been teaching clogging for more than 20 years. She noted that clogging is a true American heritage dance that was created by many different nationalities that settled in the United States.

The group gave a lively performance, which included an Irish dance as well as the finale of “Rocky Top” that got everyone clapping to the music. Their spirited and enthusiastic performance was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Mayor Scott Carmichael served as master of ceremonies, Dr. Paul Criss, pastor of New Salem Church, gave the invoca- tion and Commissioner Gerrit Verschuur was the photographer for the event.

The next luncheon “Stars and Stripes” will be a barbecue luncheon at 11:30 a.m. June 21.

There will be a special program by the Sgt. W.K. Singleton Pipes and Drums. Jennifer Rezba is public relations assistant for the city of Lakeland.
