Experts to discuss genealogy journals
Join the experts at the Germantown Regional History and Genealogy Center, 7779 Poplar Pike, to discuss genealogy journaling on April 11 at 10:30 a.m.
One-year-old Anthony Federico was beaming and clapping his hands. He was quite happy to be the center of attention. The tiny tot entered this world at just 2 pounds 6 ounces and spent 74 days in the neonatal intensive care unit at Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital.
“I feel like I won the lottery,” said Anthony’s dad, Tony Federico.
Tony and his wife Megan wanted to give back to the nurses and doctors who helped their baby boy survive and thrive. They decided to make a substantial donation in honor of the nurses and physicians who work in NICU at Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital to the March of Dimes, an organization that works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
“We were scared to death and they took such great care of Anthony,” said Tony. “We wanted to do something to give back and honor them so we decided to make a donation to the March of Dimes in their name.”
The March of Dimes presented the Federico family with a plaque as a thank you for their donation and presented a plaque to the NICU family at Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital for the exceptional work they do every day caring for premature babies like Anthony.
“It is a blessing for our team to be part of bringing so many babies into the world and it is really special to work with little ones like Anthony.” said William Kenley, CEO of Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital.
Lindsey Wildman, R.N., one of the nurses who cared for Anthony, was thrilled to see him. “It’s amazing. He’s come such a long way.”
Anthony’s big sister Kiser loves having a baby brother. “She’s a very good big sister,” says her mother Megan. “She drives him around in her Barbie jeep and if doesn’t have a toy she makes sure to give him something to play with.” Mary Alice Taylor is a communications specialist with Methodist Le Bonheur.
