Evening bike ride aids Humane Society
The Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County will host the Bark After Dark Bike Ride and Glow Bash presented by Iskiwitz Metals and Recycling on July 12, at 8 p.m. (with on-site registration beginning at 7 p.m.). This event will be one of very few opportunities to ride through Shelby Farms at night.
Bark After Dark will feature a 6-mile bicycle course through Shelby Farms, starting and ending at HSMSC at 935 Farm Road. The course will be lit appropriately, but is not dog-friendly. The ride is a fun ride and not a race, and helmets are required. Cyclists will enjoy a glow bash on the HSMSC after the fun ride, with Yazoo Brewing beer, pizza from various local restaurants, and live music from Dr. Zarr’s Amazing Funk Monster. Participation in the fun ride and glow bash is $50 and includes the ride, a T-shirt, goody bag, and admission to the glow bash. Admission to only the glow bash is $25.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Hu- mane Society of Memphis and Shelby County, which rescues and rehabilitates injured and abused animals. “We are so excited to have a fun, relaxed event like Bark After Dark where you can choose to participate in the fun ride or you can just go enjoy some beer, pizza, and great music at the glow bash,” said Leah Walker, development and marketing manager at HSMSC. “It will be a great opportunity to have fun while helping save injured and abused animals.”

The Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County has worked in the Memphis community since 1933 to give injured and abused dogs and cats a second chance at life. The organi- zation provides a safe place to recover, nutritious food and outstanding veterinary care for an average of 300 animals at a time. HSMSC staff and volunteers provide training, affection and socialization to the animals in their care to help them be adopted successfully into new and loving homes.
