A Nashville company is proposing a 10-story hotel and retail office development on the site of the McKinneyTruse neighborhood in East Memphis. The Mathew Co., a real estate development firm, is expected to ask the Land Use Control Board Thursday to rezone 20.56 acres to allow a planned development that also would include a theater and bank, according to the company’s application.

Residents of the beleaguered neighborhood at Poplar and Mt. Moriah have been trying to sell their property collectively for four years. The effort to sell the entire community as a single parcel received wide publicity when the effort began in March 1986.
