Religious club can continue meetings

-

A northeastern Tennessee county attorney says a high school religious club can continue to meet as long as it remains sponsored and led by students.

The Johnson City Press reports that Washington County Attorney Tom Seeley’s finding comes in response to a claim by the Freedom From Religion Foundation that a school employee was running the group called the Fish Club.

Following an investigation, Seeley says the Fish Club at David Crockett High School is allowed to invite outside speakers to celebrate their faith, and that there was nothing inappropriate about visits by a Young Life Christian group to hand out fast food baskets at the school.

Another complaint by the Freedom From Religion Foundation was resolved when the school softball team removed a Bible verse from its website.
