GRIZZLIES
zlies’ back-to-the-basket big men. Rookie Deyonta Davis isn’t expected to be in the rotation early on. He is recovering from plantar fasciitis in his left foot, which kept him out of summer league. Team officials announced that Davis will be limited heading into camp and the preseason and will be re-evaluated weekly.
“It’s going to be fun. Obviously, with the roster that they have now, I think I’m a perfect fit for the style of play, the culture,” Parsons recently told the Grizzlies’ website. “Coach Fizdale’s system, he has groomed some really good wings in this league. Having someone that is young, fun, excited and new to the city just as I am, and someone like J.B. Bickerstaff that I had a close relationship with in Houston, is awesome.”
Age, injury and inexperience will be major factors at this position. How much can the Griz continue to get from an aging Randolph? Parsons is coming off a knee injury and will be limited to start. Green and Martin are, well, still green. And the Griz have an eye on Davis for the future.
The Grizzlies signed former U of M guard Chris Crawford, a Sheffield alumnus, to complete their camp roster. Terms were not disclosed.
Crawford (6-4, 222) spent last season in the NBA Development League with the Canton Charge and overseas with SPO Rouen Basket in the French LNB Pro A league. The 23-year-old has appeared in 64 games (19 starts) for the Charge over two D-League seasons and has averaged 8.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 25.8 minutes, helping lead the team to the D-League Playoffs twice.
