Plans for a McDonald’s restaurant and other commercial developments will be back on the public agenda Monday as Collierville’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen reviews a slate of proposed projects.
The new McDonald’s would be built near Byhalia Road on the north side of Poplar, just west of an existing Walgreens. An existing McDonald’s nearby would be vacated and put up for sale.
Collierville’s Planning Commission earlier this month approved the concept by a 7-2 vote after those proposing the McDonald’s made adjustments to address traffic concerns, according to a report prepared by town Project Planner R. Scott Henninger.
The McDonald’s would be required to re-stripe lanes on a stretch of Poplar Avenue from two to three, the report said. The Board of Mayor and Aldermen will have to decide whether to make McDonald’s cover the cost, estimated at $7,000 plus $25,000 more for resurfacing one lane that has deteriorated, according to Henninger’s report.
The board will also consider a proposal for a new shop by Discount Tire Company near the intersection of West Poplar Avenue and U.S. 72. The proposed new site is next to an existing tire shop, South Tire.
Also on the agenda is a plan that calls for converting a small parcel of vacant land behind the existing Collierville Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership on Byhalia Road into additional parking space. That plan won approval from the Planning Commission earlier this month.
Additionally, the board will review a proposal for a two-story office building on Houston Levee Road near the intersection with Poplar.
