Harbin, Young sign with Blue Mountain
Rising sophomores Zak Harbin and Dalton Young of Northwest Mississippi Community College will continue their tennis careers at the next level, signing with first-year program Blue Mountain College earlier this month.
“It’s been an honor and a privilege to coach such outstanding young men,” Northwest head tennis coach Troy Howell said.
“They are highly motivated and achievement driven individuals that have truly been an asset to our program. We wish them the best at the next level.”
The duo had outstanding freshman seasons, going 10-5 at No. 2 doubles and 24-5 at No.’s 3/4 singles.
Harbin was 12-3 on the season at No. 4 singles, winning 11 of 12 matches in the regular season. The Kossuth native also earned Superior Academic Achievement recognition by the NJCAA off the court.
Young was 12-2 at No. 3 singles, going a perfect 12-0 during the regular season and earning NJCAA Player of the Week honors on April 15 – the first Ranger ever to earn national weekly honors.
Not only a fantastic pair on the court, off the court the duo volunteered their time to help Louisiana flood victims last August by delivering 100 cases of water to the coast.
Northwest will open the 2017 men’s tennis season on March 6, hosting Itawamba at 1 p.m.
