Vonn places 2nd in World Cup downhill at 2018 Olympic site: Lindsey Vonn went first out of the gate in Saturday’s World Cup downhill race and it nearly paid off.

Vonn was beaten by just 0.07 seconds by Italy’s Sofia Goggia in a test event at Jeongseon, South Korea, ahead of the 2018 Olympics.

The American, who had finished first in both practice runs at the venue that will be used for the Pyeongchang Games, had previously only chosen to go first on one occasion in her career.

“I chose number one as I thought the snow would get a little soft later on,” Vonn said. “But I think it got a little faster between numbers five and 20.”

Competing in just her fourth event since fracturing her arm in November, Vonn clocked what looked like a winning time of 1 minute, 38:87 seconds on the Jeongseon course.

“I am really happy with my run today,” said Vonn. “I definitely made some mistakes but my skiing was good.”

Cowboys owner won’t rule out Romo staying in Dallas: Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones shrugged off the “three-team” trade rumor on Saturday, USA TODAY Sports reported.

But he did not wave off the possibility that quarterback Tony Romo could remain with the Cowboys.

“I have not ruled out that possibility,” Jones said.

Jones spoke to reporters at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis on Saturday and, as expected, did not tip his hand on what the Cowboys plan to do with Romo.

He said he met with Romo before the Super Bowl and two went over the different possibilities of what might happen in the offseason.

As for a three-way trade between Washington, Dallas and San Francisco – a rumor floated on Friday by NFL Network, which is owned by the league – Jones all but waved that off.

Romo was supplanted by Dak Prescott as the Cowboys’ starter last season and is expected to be granted his release or traded.

Cousins and wife expecting first child in September: Kirk Cousins will soon be spending his contract money on diapers.

Cousins and his wife announced that they’re expecting a baby this September. Julie Cousins posted about the news on Instagram Saturday with a picture of their dog, Bentley, holding up a sign reading, “Mom & Dad are getting me a human.”

The quarterback responded to a congratulatory tweet from the Washington Redskins with, “Thanks! We’re thrilled!”

The Redskins placed the exclusive franchise tag on Cousins last week. If plays next season on it, he’ll make about $24 million.

Cousins, 28, made just under $20 million on the franchise tag last season. He broke his own franchise record for passing yards with 4,917 and threw for 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Alabama star LB Foster sent home from NFL combine: A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that linebacker Reuben Foster, a potential top-10 pick, has been sent home from the NFL’s annual combine in Indianapolis.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the NFL wasn’t commenting on the situation. ESPN first reported Foster’s departure, which it said followed a heated argument with a hospital worker.

Foster is widely considered the best inside linebacker coming out of college. He had surgery on his right rotator cuff after completing his senior season. That operation was to have kept him out of on-field drills at the combine.

Linebackers arrived Thursday and had initial hospital exams and X-rays. Their itinerary Friday included full physical exams. They’ll meet the media and do their bench press Saturday with on-field drills Sunday.

England stuns US women 1-0 in SheBelieves Cup soccer: Substitute Ellen White scored on a rebound in close in the 89th minute and England stunned the United States 1-0 in the second round of the SheBelieves Cup at Harrison, N.J.

It marked the first time that England has beaten the United States since a friendly in 2011. It was only England’s fourth win in 14 games (4-9-1) against the U.S.

White, who entered in the 76th minute, scored her 20th goal in 60 games with England, just seconds after Lucy Bronze cracked a shot off the crossbar moments following a corner kick. Two U.S. defenders collided trying to clear the ball and White ripped it past goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris.

Fan-friendly event kicks off Iditarod race across Alaska: The sound of howling dogs is filling downtown Anchorage as the ceremonial start of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race gets underway Saturday.

The race turns more serious Monday when the competitive portion of the Iditarod starts in Fairbanks. The winner is expected in Nome about eight days later.
