Baptist Memorial Health Care Corp. has tapped Knoxville-based Priority Ambulance to provide patient transport services between Baptist hospitals in Greater Memphis.

The service will include a specialized pediatric ambulance to transport children treated at the Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children's Hospital, which opened two years ago as part of Baptist Memorial Hospital for women on the East Memphis campus of the system's flagship hospital.

Priority will manage and staff ambulances with a Baptist Brand and is currently recruiting for 60 paramedics and emergency medical technicians, a Priority spokeswoman said. A dispatch center will be located with nurses in the Baptist Patient Placement Center.

“This strategic alliance is a big step forward in improving efficiency as we continue to care for patients around the clock,” Dr. Paul DePriest, chief operating officer for Baptist, said in a statement. “Priority Ambulance joining our team will help streamline logistics as they work closely with the staff at our Patient Placement Center.”

Baptist is affiliated with 15 hospitals in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas.

Priority Ambulance, with Bryan Gibson as chief executive officer, provides emergency and nonemergency medical transport services in eight states and in Knox, London and Blount counties in East Tennessee.
