Police identify man slain in Hickory Hill shooting

Antreze Franklin has been identified by Memphis police as the man shot and killed in Hickory Hill Saturday night.

Franklin, 26, was found behind the wheel of a Dodge Magnum after he he pulled into a McDonald’s to flee gunmen. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police said several people were in the car with Franklin including two men who were shot but survived.

The victims told police two men in black hoodies and jeans opened fire on their car at a corner store on Mendenhall Road a little before 10 p.m. Saturday. The victims sped off and pulled into the parking lot at the McDonald’s at 3636 S. Mendenhall. Police found the car blocking the drive-thru.

Police continue to investigat­e and no arrests had been made Tuesday in Franklin’s death.

On social media, Franklin’s friends and family said he was a Memphis rapper known as Young Treze.

Man, 82, charged after friend gets shot during argument

An 82-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault after authoritie­s said he got drunk Monday and shot another man during an argument.

The incident began around 4:30 p.m. at a home in the 7200 block of Walsh Road near Millington, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

According to an affidavit, authoritie­s said the suspect, Edgar Holmes invited the victim over to his home, where they drank alcohol for several hours. The two men then got into an argument and that is when the victim told deputies Holmes shot him.

“Suspect Edgar Holmes produced a handgun, a Taurus revolver, from his side and fired one shot,” according to affidavit.

Authoritie­s said Holmes barricaded himself inside for about 20 minutes before he was arrested.

“He was taken from his residence on a stretcher because he was unable to walk due to excessive amount of alcohol,” spokesman Earle Farrell said Monday.

The victim was taken to the Regional Medical Center for a gunshot wound to his right shoulder. The suspect was also taken to the hospital, where he was treated for a head injury.

Holmes was booked in the Shelby County Jail on the assault charge where his bond was set at $12,500. He will be in court Wednesday.

Monday was not Holmes’ first arrest. He was charged with DUI in May 2014, when he was 79. He was also charged with public drunkennes­s and DUI in 1983.

MPD searching for driver in fatal pedestrian hit-and-run

Memphis police are searching for a driver who struck and killed a woman walking on Sam Cooper Monday night.

Police said officers responded to the call shortly before 11 p.m. at Sam Cooper and Mendenhall Road.

The victim was found in the far right lane of eastbound Sam Cooper, approximat­ely 10 feet east of the Mendenhall Road overpass, police said.

Police have not identified the victim, who was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver was gone when police arrived. No witnesses were available, police said.

This is the sixth fatal pedestrian crash in the city this year. Last year, 33 pedestrian­s were killed in fatal crashes in Memphis.
