U of M student carjacked in campus lot

Memphis police are searching for armed suspects who carjacked a University of Memphis student on campus Wednesday night.

Police responded to the carjacking call shortly before 9 p.m. in the student parking lot at 3696 Southern Ave .

The victim told police that he was sitting in his 2016 Toyota Corolla when three men armed with guns and a rifle approached his car.

He said one of the suspects opened the unlocked driver’s door and said, “Where is the money?”

The victim was forced out of the car and handed over his wallet and cell phone. He told police that the suspects threw the phone and his backpack on the ground and fled in his car.

They left westbound on Southern. The Toyota is white and has a Texas tag. The license plate number is GWB2237.

Police investigat­e shooting near University of Memphis

Memphis police are investigat­ing after a shooting not far from the University of Memphis left a man in critical condition.

The incident began around 6:20 p.m. Thursday at Cook Out at 757 South Highland, police said. One man opened fire on another, leaving the victim in critical condition at the Regional Medical Center. The suspect fled after the shooting, police said.
