Woman injured in 3-car crash involving SCSO deputy

A woman was injured in a three-car crash involving a Shelby County Sheriff’s deputy Monday morning

The accident occurred around 8 a.m. on Interstate 40 at Sycamore View and Whitten.

The deputy was driving a Ford Taurus and was not injured, said sheriff’s office spokesman Earle Farrell. An ambulance was called for a woman in one of the cars, Farrell said.

This is the second time in a week that a Shelby County officer has been involved in a crash. Last week, a car hydroplaned on Interstate 40 just before the Covington Pike exit, and the officer’s car hit the vehicle. Two people were injured in the car. The deputy was not at fault and not cited in the accident, authorities said.

In Monday’s crash, debris was scattered over the roadway and traffic was down to one lane. Tennessee Department of Transportation officials said the accident should be cleared by 9 a.m.
