Luther Dickinson, Don Bryant highlight concert series at Old Dominick Distillery
Downtown’s Old Dominick Distillery is mixing music with their drinks. Earlier this year, the company introduced its “Pure Memphis Music Series,” a concert program in its upstairs event space.
The shows — which have included performances by Jim Lauderdale, Talibah Safiya, and the Pistol and the Queen — take place the second and fourth Thursday of each month.
Next Thursday, March 22, Luther Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars will headline a show at the venue with a $25 ticket price. Old Dominick has also confirmed a slate of spring performances as well.
Following Dickinson’s turn, the series will resume April 12 with an appearance by Memphis soul great Don Bryant featuring The Bo-keys. Bryant — the former Hi Records artist and hit songwriter of “I Can’t Stand the Rain” — made a triumphant comeback in 2017 with his critically acclaimed LP “Don’t Give Up on Love.” Tickets for Bryant and the BoKeys are $25.
On April 26, roots rocker John Paul Keith and special guests will perform. Keith, who is about release his first new album in five years, Heart Shaped Shadow, will be performing with his “big band,” which includes local notables Art Edmaiston and Kirk Smothers on saxophones, Gerald Stephens on piano and organ, Preston Rumbaugh on bass, and Shawn Zorn on drums. Tickets for the concert are $10.
In May, eclectic R&B/soul artist Cameron Bethany will be the featured act. Bethany released his debut LP “You Make Me Nervous” last fall via Memphis’ Unapologetic label collective, and has been winning raves for his adventurous blend of styles and songs. Tickets are $10.
On May 24, singer-songwriter Amy Black will perform. Last year, Black — a Boston native now based in Nashville — made a career-best album, “Memphis,” which was produced by the Bo-Keys’ Scott Bomar and featured members of the Hi Rhythm section. Tickets are $15.
