The ‘Wicked’ and the Good
The Broadway musical “Wicked”, playing through March 25 at The Orpheum, may be a subliminal message about America hidden beneath beautiful costumes, wonderful choreography, and outstanding musical performances. A child is born, and then hated, simply because her skin is the wrong color. It is not until one person, the Good, a respected leader, stands in defense of the outcast girl, that the others accept and show love toward the child. She is accepted by her peers and enters prestigious training with her lifelong hero, the wizard. When she finds out this hero has no compassion for those unlike him, she threatens to expose his hypocrisy. Fearing he will lose his position as the all-powerful wizard, he vilifies the girl to the community. Once again the whole world turns against her and she is alone except for the ones who truly love her.
The truth is a threat to some in power who fear they will lose that power

The wizards of our world need us to stay divided so they can maintain their positions of power. Our differences empower us when we pool our strengths together for good. It is time to pull the wizard out from behind his curtain. It is time for the good to stop living for the praise of the powerful and start defending the rights for all of it citizens to live in peace. There are many organizations in our communities that work toward that goal. Be good. Do good. Find an organization and join with them to show love toward people who you think are different from you. We really can make a difference, finally and for good.
