JT may be hot, but he likes it cold. Page Six reports that Justin Timberlake and wife Jessica Biel are big fans of cryotherapy, which is sort of like an extreme ice bath without the water.

Timberlake, in New York City for concerts at Madison Square Garden Wednesday and Thursday nights, has been using cryotherapy to help with muscle pain and recovery from intense rehearsals, the website reports. It says he and Biel have been spotted making frequent trips to a cryotherapy business in the city’s Tribecca area.

Desmond Harris, an employee of Flow Performance and Recovery at 5101 Sanderlin in East Memphis, said cryotherapy has been around since the 1980s, but is relatively new to the Memphis area. Flow has been in business a couple of years, he said, and is one of three or four places in town that offer the service.

“It’s a cryochamber where you wear cotton socks and gloves,” Harris said. “It’s a dry cold, with a temperature of minus 200 to 250 degrees fahrenheit, for a three-minute burst.”

The idea, Harris said, is to force the blood to the body’s core, where it is reoxygenated and filled with nutrients before returning to the extremities as the body warms following the treatment. He said it’s good for athletes; those doing extreme workouts, like Timberlake; or those with certain conditions such as sciatica or Lupus.

Timberlake has never visited while in Memphis, Harris said, but it’s nice to know he’s a cryo fan.

“We would be more than happy to have Justin pop in,” Harris said.
