Gasol reaches milestone

Center Marc Gasol missed more games he would have liked to because of mandatory rest. But was on the floor against the Pistons, and nearly picked up a triple double with 20 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.

Gasol became the third player in NBA history with at least 300 assists, 100 blocked shots and 100 made 3pointers in a single season.

MarShon Brooks not letting up

Brooks, 29, is playing with a guaranteed contract after signing with the Grizzlies on a 10-day deal following a stint in China. He finished with 25 points, marking the fifth time in as many appearances that Brooks scored at least 20 points.

His 3-pointer with eight minutes left put the Grizzlies ahead 109-97 and forced Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy to call for time.

The Grizzlies led by as many as 20 points in the first half. Detroit didn’t go away and cut Memphis’ advantage to single digits several times in the second half. Brooks helped the Grizzlies keep a comfortable cushion with clutch shooting.

Bickerstaff optimistic about his future

No decision has been made about Bickerstaff’s future on the bench. Could Sunday have been his last home game coaching the Grizzlies? Or will the franchise reward Bickerstaff by removing the interim tag and signing him to a long-term contract?

“You just have to wait and see,” Bickerstaff said. “We’ve had conversations. (General manager) Chris Wallace has done a good job staying in contact. The front office has been supportive in that way. At the end of the season you will be evaluated like everyone else and see where it goes.”

Parsons absent

Forward Chandler Parsons was not with the team and is reportedly receiving treatment on his knees. The Grizzlies provided information on Twitter regarding Parsons receiving orthobiologic knee injections on the west coast. Meanwhile, guard Tyreke Evans remains away from the team due to unspecified personal reasons.
