TODAY’S QURAN VERSE

-

Whoever kills a person, it is as though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind. Qur’an, 5:32

I read about coming events at Fed ExForum, and I am wondering if there is something that is preventing us from having major concerts come to Memphis. My wife and I attended a Neil Diamond concert at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville last year, and we are interested in other groups (e.g., Elton John, Fleetwood Mac) who may have concerts in the near future. Inevitably, the schedule lists sites that involve travel. When I was growing up, these groups played Memphis while on tour. Now, it seems that Memphis is treated as a minor league. I know that we now have Landers Center and the casinos. But why should the major groups like the ones above require us to travel if we want to see them? I wonder why Memphis is treated the way it is and if this can be remedied.

Ben Carson’s blind spot

The secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Ben Carson, an African-American, was here and recalled rejoicing when housing discrimination was outlawed in 1968. I wonder if he is aware that Donald Trump real estate companies have been penalized at least three times by the government for violating housing discrimination laws? Sorry, Mr. Secretary, but times haven’t really changed for those in power such as your boss. Laws don’t apply to the rich and powerful.
