The driver of a vehicle that crashed and killed a 7-year-old girl also died, police said Saturday morning.

The driver was identified as Danmien Bishop, 36.

The girl died and three other children were injured in the single-vehicle crash in North Memphis early Friday afternoon. The last update from police Friday night on the other children said their conditions were critical.

The children are a 12-year-old boy, a 2-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl, police said.

The crash took place shortly before 1 p.m. near 1470 North Watkins, just north of Louisville Avenue, according to police.

The 2013 Buick LaCrosse sedan was southbound on Watkins when it veered into oncoming traffic, struck a curb and went through a chain-link fence, police spokesman Louis C. Brownlee said. The 7-year-old was ejected from the car.

The girl has not been identified.

Two dead in six-vehicle crash on I-40 Saturday

Two people are dead and another three were taken by helicopter to a hospital following a six-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 Saturday afternoon.

Shelby County Sheriff spokesman Earle Farrell said three cars and three trucks were involved. The sheriff 's office assisted on scene, but the Tennessee Highway Patrol will do the investigat­ion, he said.

The accident happened around 2 p.m. in the eastbound lane near the Tenn. 385 exit, Farrell said.

No names or ages of the deceased have been released. Farrell said two adults and a 10-year-old boy were flown to hospitals.

A car and a truck caught on fire and burned completely, he said, and two other cars were "completely destroyed."
