Court-appointed Julien Co. trustee Jack Marlow Wednesday accused Julien J. Hohenberg of fraud in attempting to hide his wealth from his own creditors and creditors of his failed Memphis cotton trading company. In a memorandum filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Marlow said Hohenberg has “engaged in misleading and fraudulent conduct” since he sought bankruptcy court protection from his creditors in January 1991. The allegations of deceit come in advance of a scheduled Tuesday hearing before U.S. Bankruptcy Judge William H. Brown. In the hearing, Marlow, who was appointed to work on behalf of creditors, plans to seek court permission to sell Hohenberg’s personal holdings to help satisfy a portion of the Julien Co.’s debts.

WASHINGTON — Atty. Gen. Ramsey Clark expressed the belief Sunday that escaped convict James Earl Ray, accused of slaying Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., remains alive. He said he was “very optimistic” that Ray would be captured. Clark said he found no evidence to support theories that Ray had been hired by conspirators to kill King and then himself was killed. “We have no evidence to believe that he is not still alive,” he said.

A one-horse wagon unloaded it and hauled it to high ground where four automobiles were waiting for the run to town. Chief Deputy Marshal Tyree Taylor arrived just in time to confiscate the last case.
