Memphis football secured a commitment from four-star defensive Eric Gregory of IMG Academy in Florida on Saturday, according to a source.

Gregory, who transferred to IMG from Central in January, is the Tigers’ second four-star commitment in the class of 2019 and third commitment overall. He has offers from several SEC schools, including Auburn, Ole Miss, Tennessee and LSU.

247Sports has Gregory ranked as the No. 17-ranked defensive end in the country and the No. 37 recruit in Florida. He is also ranked as the No. 235 player in the country.

Rivals.com has the 6-foot-4, 240pound Gregory ranked No. 97 in the country and No. 7 nationally among defensive ends.

Memphis is ranked No. 52 in 247Sports’ recruiting team rankings thanks to Gregory and four-star wide receiver commitment Keveon Mullins. The Tigers also have a commitment from three-star offensive lineman Trevis Hopper from Central.

Gregory, who had 12 sacks last season at Central, is also the fifth highestrated player to commit to the Tigers according to the 247Sports commitment rankings and the second-highest in coach Mike Norvell’s tenure behind current sophomore Obinna Eze.

It’s the first time since 2002 that the Tigers have secured commitments from two consensus four-star recruits in the same cycle. That year the Tigers signed DeAngelo Williams and Willie Henderson.
