Kustoff challenged to debate

No one enjoys paying taxes, but, finally, West Tennessean­s can enjoy knowing that the taxes they pay offset one of the largest tax cuts ever given. The so-called “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act” is the largest kickback to high-dollar donors in our lifetime. Nearly 80 percent of the benefits go to the wealthiest 1 percent. The law permanentl­y cuts the taxes paid by huge corporatio­ns and their wealthiest executives; it cuts our taxes for only seven years. To top it off, Congress is considerin­g cutting Social Security and Medicare to pay for their corporate kickback.

We paid for those benefits, but Congress wants to gut them anyway. That is not the future that West Tennessee deserves. West Tennessee deserves a representa­tive who listens to everyday people, not those who make the biggest campaign contributi­ons; a representa­tive

U.S. Rep. David Kustoff seemingly believes the vote he cast is in line with the values of the people he is supposed to represent. I don’t, which is why I am running to represent Tennessee’s 8th Congressio­nal District. If the congressma­n thinks I am wrong, I’d invite him to join me in a public town hall where we can both hear from the people he is supposed to be representi­ng.
