3-star tight end Martin commits to play at Memphis
Memphis got a verbal commitment Tuesday from tight end Drew Martin out of North Little Rock in Arkansas.
Martin made the announcement on his Twitter profile after stating Sunday that he would announce his college decision.
"After much consideration, I am extremely excited to announced that I am officially committing to the University of Memphis," Martin tweeted.
The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Martin is rated a 3-star recruit by Rivals and had offers from, among others, Tulane, Dartmouth, Harvard, Yale and Princeton. Memphis associate head coach/ tight ends coach Will Hall was Martin's primary recruiter.
Martin helped lead North Little Rock to the 7A state championship, the school's first since 1972.
Martin's commitment gives the Tigers a boost for the Tigers after an eventful week. Memphis got a verbal commitment from four-star defensive end Eric Gregory but days later, Keveon Mullins, a four-star wide receiver from Whitehaven, de-committed from the Tigers and re-opened his recruitment.
The Tigers are loaded with depth at tight end with returning junior starters Joey Magnifico and Sean Dykes along with freshmen Tyce Daniel and Jared Edwards, both of showed significant improvement during the spring.
