Collierville Summer Concert Series back for 27th year
The 2018 Summer Concert Series began Thursday at the gazebo in Historic Town Square Park in Collierville.
The series, organized by Main Street Collierville, returns for its 27th year and features seven area bands including Wolf River Rednecks, Blind Mississippi Morris and Seeing Red.
“I am excited about our lineup this year,” said Amanda Harris, executive director of Main Street Collierville. “It’s going to be our best series yet.”
First Tennessee is the title sponsor and Cumulus Media is the media sponsor. It will broadcast the concerts on its network of stations: KIX-106, 98.1 The Max and 98.9 The Bridge.
Harris said the series accentuates Collierville’s strengths while highlighting its rich history.
“We love providing an event that features a wide variety of genre and talent across the Mid-South,” Harris said. “The Summer Concert Series helps us promote the Historic District in Collierville and showcases the unique characteristics of our Town Square. We hope to encourage people to visit and experience the sense of community that Collierville provides.”
Plenty of visitors are expected to take in the sights and sounds around Main Street during the concert series, providing an economic boon for businesses in and around Town Square.
“I think the concerts do a great job of promoting businesses,” Harris said. “While some businesses are not open during the concert times, I think it gives businesses great exposure to encourage attendees to visit again and shop local.”
Highlander Scottish Pub is one establishment expecting an influx of new foot-traffic due to the event. Bartender Laura Lee said the restaurant is already warning patrons to book their reservations early because open tables will be at a minimum on Thursday nights moving forward.
“We’re really looking forward to it,” Lee said regarding the Summer Concert Series. “We already have a women’s runner club that regularly comes in on Thursdays, so this will just add to our existing customer base. It’s going to be really packed.”
